Air Peace Grounds Aircraft, Cancels Warri–Lagos Flight Following Bird Strike
Passengers travelling from Warri to Lagos experienced disruptions after Air Peace cancelled a scheduled flight following a bird strike involving one of its aircraft.
According to reports, the incident occurred during routine flight operations, prompting the airline to immediately withdraw the affected aircraft from service for mandatory safety inspections and technical assessments.
Air Peace stated that the decision to ground the aircraft was taken in line with international aviation safety standards, emphasizing that passenger safety remains its highest priority.
A bird strike occurs when a bird collides with an aircraft, potentially causing damage to engines, windshields, or other critical components. Aviation experts note that while many bird strikes result in minor damage, every incident must be carefully inspected before the aircraft can return to service.
The cancellation affected passengers scheduled to travel on the Warri–Lagos route, with some experiencing delays and changes to their travel plans. The airline is expected to make alternative arrangements for affected customers while engineers assess the aircraft's condition.
Industry observers have commended the airline's decision to prioritize safety over operational convenience, noting that strict adherence to safety procedures is essential in maintaining confidence in air travel.
The incident also highlights the ongoing challenge of bird strikes at airports across Nigeria and other parts of the world. Aviation authorities and airport operators continue to implement wildlife management measures aimed at reducing the risk of birds entering flight paths.
As inspections continue, passengers have been advised to monitor updates from Air Peace regarding flight schedules and rescheduling arrangements.
While the cancellation may have caused inconvenience for travelers, aviation professionals stress that precautionary measures following a bird strike are standard practice and are designed to ensure the safety of passengers, crew members, and aircraft.
