Plane Carrying Skydivers Crashes in France, Killing 11
A plane carrying a group of skydivers crashed near the city of Nancy in northeastern France on Sunday, killing all 11 people on board, according to French authorities.
The aircraft, which belonged to a local parachuting club, went down shortly after taking off from the Nancy-Essey airfield. Officials said those killed included the pilot, five skydiving instructors, and five students participating in a parachuting activity.
Emergency services, including firefighters, police officers, and medical teams, were quickly deployed to the crash site. Authorities secured the area and launched a rescue and recovery operation while investigators began gathering evidence and witness statements to determine the cause of the crash.
Officials said the aircraft appeared to suffer a malfunction before plunging almost vertically to the ground. The crash occurred near a residential area, but no injuries were reported among people on the ground.
French authorities have opened an investigation into the accident, while psychological support is being provided to the victims' families.
