Former Delta State Government , Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, reportedly approached the EFCC for the release of his international passport to enable him travel abroad for urgent medical treatment.
This raises an important question: Are there no hospitals in Delta State or Nigeria capable of providing the medical care you need?
If not, then as the immediate past Governor of Delta State, does this suggest that the healthcare facilities built or supported during your administration are not adequate enough to serve the people, including former public office holders?
This situation gives many Nigerians the impression that some politicians are more concerned about their personal interests than the welfare of the people. If you claim to have built hospitals and improved healthcare during your administration, why can't you use those same hospitals for your own treatment?
After all, if the foreign hospitals you intend to visit were not properly equipped, adequately funded, and staffed with qualified medical professionals by their governments, would you choose to travel there for treatment?
Many Nigerians have often questioned why political leaders seek medical treatment abroad while the citizens they govern are expected to rely on local healthcare facilities. If our leaders have confidence in the healthcare system they helped build, should they not also make use of those same facilities?
These are questions that deserve thoughtful reflection and honest answers from our leaders.
