A fresh political exchange has emerged between supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi following contrasting views on leadership and crisis management.
Peter Obi had reportedly recalled how he sought federal support during his tenure as governor, stating that he contacted former Presidents during periods of erosion challenges and rising insecurity in Anambra State.
In response, Tinubu pointed to his record as Governor of Lagos State, arguing that leadership requires taking initiative rather than waiting for intervention from Abuja.
According to the President, when coastal erosion and the threat of the Atlantic Ocean endangered parts of Lagos, his administration backed the vision that eventually produced the Great Wall of Lagos and opened the path for the development of Eko Atlantic City. He also highlighted the establishment of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund as a response to rising crime, saying the initiative helped equip and support security agencies operating in the state.
The remarks have reignited the long-running debate over leadership styles, with supporters of both politicians citing their preferred candidate's record in governance, infrastructure development and security management.
While Obi's supporters argue that collaboration with the federal government is a sign of responsible leadership, Tinubu's supporters contend that proactive decision-making and local solutions are the true test of executive leadership.
Leadership Debate: Is a strong leader one who seeks help when necessary, or one who focuses on solving problems independently?
