INEC Declares Oyebanji Winner of Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, securing a second term in office.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, announced the results in the early hours of Sunday after the conclusion of collation from the state's 16 local government areas.

According to the official results, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challengers. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oluwole Oluyede, secured 40,543 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received 12,872 votes.

INEC disclosed that 384,940 voters were accredited for the election, while 375,777 valid votes were recorded. A total of 6,332 votes were rejected.

Declaring the result, the Returning Officer stated that Oyebanji had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore returned elected as governor of Ekiti State.

The victory extends APC's control of Ekiti State and gives Oyebanji another four-year mandate to continue his administration's programmes and policies.
