"I'm Very Sick and Currently on Medication
A man identified as Prince Adeniyi Matthew, who is facing allegations of fraud involving the Federal Government, has reportedly appealed for leniency, telling the court that he is seriously ill and currently undergoing medical treatment.
According to findings from a presidential investigation, Matthew allegedly established a fictitious government agency known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and presented himself as its Director-General.
Investigators claim that he went on to secure office space within the Federal Secretariat, opened an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria in the agency's name, and allegedly obtained a budgetary allocation of ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 national budget.
The allegations further state that he summoned ambassadors to official meetings, held strategic sessions with government ministers, and even represented Nigeria at international conferences under the guise of the purported agency.
The case has sparked widespread reactions due to the scale of the alleged operation and the questions it raises about oversight within public institutions.
During proceedings, Matthew reportedly pleaded for compassion, citing his deteriorating health condition and ongoing medication.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter, while many Nigerians are demanding accountability and a thorough review of how the alleged activities went undetected for an extended period.
The case is expected to remain a major topic of public interest as more details emerge.
