Residents Raise Concerns Over Alleged Poor Quality Road Construction in Ofagbe Community, Delta State

Residents of Ofagbe Community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State have expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of an ongoing road construction project in the area, alleging that the work falls far below acceptable standards.

According to community members featured in videos circulating online, the asphalt layer being laid on the road appears extremely thin, with some residents claiming it is less than one inch in thickness. The residents further alleged that portions of the newly laid surface could be easily removed by hand, raising concerns about the durability and lifespan of the project.

Some sources within the community also claimed that contractors have allegedly been carrying out portions of the construction work during nighttime hours, a development that has fueled suspicion among residents regarding the quality of the project execution.

The concerned residents have called on Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as relevant government agencies and project monitoring authorities, to urgently investigate the allegations and ensure that the road is constructed according to approved engineering specifications.

Community stakeholders argue that public infrastructure projects should deliver lasting value to the people and not become a waste of taxpayers' resources through substandard execution.

The situation also highlights the need for communities to actively monitor projects within their areas and demand accountability from contractors and supervising authorities.

Observers have urged youths and community leaders across the country to resist any attempt to compromise their oversight responsibilities through personal benefits or inducements. They emphasized that protecting public projects is a collective responsibility and that communities must stand up for quality development that will serve both present and future generations.

Residents of Ofagbe Community say they remain hopeful that the state government and relevant authorities will intervene promptly to assess the project and ensure that the road is delivered according to acceptable standards.

As of the time of this report, the contractors handling the project had not publicly responded to the allegations.
