Delta Police Demote Two Officers Caught Collecting Money Through POS Machine in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command has demoted two police officers after they were found guilty of extortion and misconduct following a viral video showing them collecting money from a vehicle owner through a POS machine.

The affected officers, Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim of the 'C' Division, Asaba, were captured in a video recorded on January 13, 2026, allegedly using a POS terminal to collect money from a motorist inside the police station.

Following investigations and disciplinary proceedings, police authorities found both officers guilty of Disobedience to Lawful Order, Extortion, and Discreditable Conduct, offences punishable under the provisions of the Police Act, 2020.

As punishment, the Nigeria Police Force approved their demotion. Inspector Augustine Jeremiah was reduced in rank from Inspector to Sergeant, while Corporal Miracle Ehirim was demoted from Corporal to Constable.

The disciplinary action comes amid ongoing efforts by the police authorities to address corruption, extortion, and unprofessional conduct within the force.
