Sokoto Strengthens Security Fight as Defence Minister Commissions 62 Armoured Personnel Carriers
Nigeria has taken another step in its battle against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping following the commissioning of 62 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), operational vehicles and other security assets acquired by the Sokoto State Government.
At the commissioning ceremony in Sokoto, the Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, described the investment as a major boost to security operations across the state and the wider North-West region.
According to the minister, the newly acquired assets will enhance troop mobility, improve force protection and strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies confronting terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups.
He urged security personnel to deploy the equipment effectively and ensure that the improved capabilities translate into tangible results in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
General Musa also reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces and other security agencies to working closely with state governments, traditional institutions and local communities to restore peace and stability across affected areas.
Commending Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, for prioritising security, the minister noted that investments in modern equipment and logistics remain crucial to protecting lives, safeguarding communities and supporting economic development.
The commissioning comes as authorities intensify efforts to curb violent crimes and strengthen security architecture in regions affected by banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.
Do you think more states should invest directly in security equipment to support federal security agencies?
