“WHO WERE THOSE MEN?” — Outrage As ABSU Student Allegedly Dragged, Beaten By Armed Men In Police Camouflage Along Uturu Road
A disturbing incident allegedly involving armed men dressed in police camouflage has sparked outrage online after a student of Abia State University shared a terrifying encounter that many Nigerians are now reacting to emotionally.
According to the young man, the incident reportedly happened earlier today around Uturu Road near ABSU when he boarded a mini bus to return to his lodge. What started like a normal checkpoint stop allegedly turned into a nightmare that left him injured, traumatized, and questioning his safety as a student in Nigeria.
In the now-discussed account, the student claimed the armed men who stopped the vehicle were not wearing visible name tags or proper identification. He alleged that they only had police camouflage polo and trousers on. This immediately raised suspicion and fear among passengers.
During the confrontation, the student was reportedly heard asking repeatedly:
“Who are you people? Where is your name tag? I will report you to the IGP!”
But according to him, instead of answering his questions, one of the armed men allegedly kept dragging him aggressively while others joined in. The situation reportedly escalated after they noticed he was carrying multiple phones.
The student explained that he tried to tell them he was simply a student and that the phones belonged to him legally. However, he claimed they refused to listen and allegedly dragged him, his brother, and another passenger into a nearby bush where they were beaten and intimidated.
He further alleged that threats were made during the incident, including statements suggesting they could shoot them and “nothing would happen.” The student said his ear was injured during the assault and that one of his phone screens got damaged in the process.
Now Nigerians online are asking serious questions:
Who exactly were those armed men?
Why were there no visible name tags?
Why are students around Uturu constantly complaining about harassment and intimidation?
And how can citizens identify genuine officers from impostors if proper identification is not displayed?
Many social media users have also expressed concern over the increasing fear among students and young Nigerians whenever they encounter armed security operatives on the road. Some commenters believe incidents like this continue damaging public trust and creating tension between citizens and law enforcement.
Others are calling on the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter thoroughly and clarify whether the individuals involved were genuine officers or unidentified armed operatives abusing power.
One thing that has particularly angered people online is the student’s repeated cry in the video asking for identification while allegedly being dragged forcefully. Many viewers say that moment alone raises questions that authorities cannot ignore.
Now over to Nigerians:
If an officer has no visible name tag or proper identification, should citizens obey quietly out of fear, or demand accountability immediately?
Drop your opinion respectfully.
Would you feel safe in that situation?
