Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has reacted to the reported joint military operation involving the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the United States military which allegedly led to the elimination of Abu Bilal al Minuki, described as the second in command of ISIS globally, in the Lake Chad region.

In a Facebook post, Gumi reportedly stated that fighting and eliminating terrorists remains a religious obligation, but warned that such operations should not involve foreign powers whose hands he described as “stained with the blood of innocent men, women, and children.”

His statement has already generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that local security operations should remain independent, while others argue that international cooperation is necessary in tackling terrorism and insurgency across Africa.

The development has once again reopened debates around foreign military involvement, intelligence sharing, sovereignty, and the best strategies for combating extremist groups threatening peace and security in the region.

Security analysts continue to emphasize that terrorism remains a global challenge requiring strong coordination, intelligence gathering, and operational support among nations. At the same time, concerns about civilian safety, accountability, and geopolitical influence continue to shape public opinion around international military partnerships. 🇳🇬🌍
